Retief Goosen

Nationality: South African
Date of birth: February 3 1969
Place of birth: Pietersburg (now called Polokwane), South Africa
Turned pro: 1990
Last five Masters finishes: 3rd ('06), 3rd ('05), 13th ('04), 13th ('03), 2nd ('02)

Retief Goosen is known for his ability to remain calm under pressure. Goosen turned professional in 1990 after winning the South African Amateur Championship and has never looked back, winning the European Tour Order of Merit in 2001 and 2002.

He is widely regarded as one of the most consistent golfers in the world, having won a tournament every year since 1995. As a result he was a long-time fixture in the top five of the world rankings.

Amazingly, Goosen achieved all this without using a coach. However, for the 2007 season he has appointed Gregor Jamieson to help him with his swing.

Always a strong competitor at the Masters, Goosen's solid putting helps him on the ice-like greens of Augusta.
