Norman declines PGA invitation.

Greg Norman will not take part in this week’s PGA Championship. The Australian, who finished tied 3rd at the Open, and tied 5th at the Seniors Open has decided that playing four events in four weeks is too much.

Norman commented on his website: “While I truly appreciate the PGA extending me an exemption for this year's PGA Championship, I have elected to decline in favour of adhering to the professional and personal commitments I made prior to The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale”.

Darren Clarke, who failed to qualify for the Open Championship, has accepted the opportunity to play at Oakland Hills. The Ulsterman finished 42nd in last year’s event, and will be keen to impress, with wildcard places for the European Ryder Cup team still up for grabs.

The PGA Championship gets underway on August 7th, and will be played at Oakland Hills for the first time since 1979.
