Stephen Dartnall sole leader at the Australian Open
Heavy rain caused the second round of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney to be suspended after the course was deemed unplayable.
Australian Stephen Dartnall currently holds a two-shot lead over compatriot Mathew Goggin, runner-up at last week’s PGA, who carded 70.
Dartnall, in the first group of the day, took advantage of the better conditions to shoot a four-under 68.
Rod Pampling who claimed the Australian Masters a fortnight ago fired a 71 to sit on six-under overall with Robert Allenby, a shot further back and well in contention.
PGA winner and pre-tournament favourite Geoff Ogilvy turned in 34 before play was suspended, and remains in the hunt at two-under for the tournament.
Meanwhile, New Zealand duo Mark Brown and David Smail join a cluster of players at four under – one-over for the day when play was halted.
Michael Sim also handled the difficult conditions landing an eagle and a birdie in his first eight holes, and is one of seven players at three under alongside Richard Green.
Two-time champion Peter Lonard carded a solid two-under 70 and remains on track for a third title.
