Clive Bailey voted 2009 EGU Steward of the Year

A small section of the north Devon coastline was left feeling very proud as Clive Bailey was voted the Fuller's London Pride EGU Steward of the Year for 2009.
The 55 year-old from Willingcott Valley Golf Club overcame competition from the three other regional winners at a celebratory lunch held at Fuller's own The Counting House in London on October 23.
It was the second successive year that Clive won the South-West region - although he was unable to attend the final last year. This time around, however, Clive's presence clearly had the desired effect on the judges.
The panel, which received a record entry of over 600 votes in this year's competition, stated their intentions to find "people who were obviously loved by their regulars, respected by their peers, and appreciated by visitors."
Speaking after receiving his prizes, Clive said: "For the first time in my life I'm speechless. I felt I had a good chance of winning last year, but not being present at the final I understand why I didn't. I was very proud to be the South-West winner again and quietly confident I might do it this time."
The other regional winners were Andy Shaw from Southport Old Links, representing the North, South East's Angela Hall of Royal Ascot, and Tessa Byrne from Evesham claiming the Midlands honours.
The London Pride EGU Steward of the Year is part of a five-year deal between Fuller's and the EGU, which supports amateur golf and provides greater recognition to clubs and their members.
