Golfers help Make-A-Wish come true

Members of Surrey National Golf Club hold Make-A-Wish charity day [Grant Pritchard]
Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK are encouraging golf clubs across the UK to hold fun charity days in order to grant the wishes of around 1000 children.
Make-A-Wish aspire to respond to the wishes of children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses, and this year the charity need to raise a minimum of £5 million.
Surrey National Golf Club in Caterham held their own fun golf event for Make-A-Wish on April 20, where 350 golfers played in an 18-hole Stableford competition with a quiz question at each tee and a beat-the-pro competition over a par 3. The day came to a close with an evening dinner and a charity auction where prizes included a ride in a Ferrari.
Margaret Butterworth, Surrey National Golf Club ladies captain, said: "Organising the golf day was hard work, but well worth it when we saw how much we had managed to raise for Make-A-Wish. We raised about £8,000 in total."
Make-A-Wish aims to provide the vital funding to fulfil children's wants, with requests ranging from becoming a superhero for the day to meeting a sporting idol.
Amanda Baughen, Head of New Income Development at Make-A-Wish, commented: "We would love to see more golf clubs and societies take up the challenge and come up with their own ideas on how to make a normal round of golf that little bit more crazy in aid of Make-A-Wish."
