Birdies and Bogeys - Monday morning blues

Paul O’Hagan (GM Staff Writer)

We all love the anticipation leading up to an important game of golf and the banter it creates but it does not compare with the analysis and inevitable abuse that goes on after a round involving the GM team. This Monday was filled with tales of birdies and bogeys and being journalists a fair amount of creative licence is used to make last weekends golf the greatest the television cameras have ever missed.

I write this blog still bitter and twisted as this weekend I was defeated in my own open competition by equipment editor Jeremy Ellwood. The 36-hole competition was a close run thing but to be beaten on the last by the worst birdie you are ever likely to see is pretty hard to swallow. The only positive I can take is that the victor is out of the office this week so bragging is put on hold at least for the time being. Elsewhere news editor Luke Norman fought gallantly in his club match play only for the dreaded Norman Nerves to appear – something he surely needs to address to avoid further embarrassment in the next GM medal. Glory this Monday though went to our editor who’s impressive medal round brings him right in to contention for lowest handicapper in the office.

Bring on next Monday when tales of defeat and glory can once again be told and retold to anyone willing to listen.
