Corey Pavin named US Ryder Cup captain

Corey Pavin has been named the United States Ryder Cup captain for the 2010 event at Celtic Manor in Wales.
The 49-year-old Californian takes over from Paul Azinger, who broke Europe’s recent dominance of the contest at Valhalla in September.
Azinger had been tipped to retain the captaincy, but Pavin will now lead the US Team in an effort to win the Cup in Europe for the first time since 1993.
Pavin said: "The Ryder Cup is in my blood. It is the greatest event in the world, certainly in golf."
It was in 1991 at Kiawah Island that Pavin made his Ryder Cup debut when he partnered Steve Pate by wearing a "Desert Storm" cap during the fiery match that became known as "The War on the Shore."
The passionate American added: "Playing on foreign soil brings a whole new set of challenges. They (Europe) will be able to set up Celtic Manor how they like and will have a passionate crowd on their side.
"I was proud to be part of the last winning team on foreign soil in 1993 and I encourage American fans to book tickets now to come and support us."
