Padraig Harrington in action at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf

This week features the PGA Grand of Golf in Bermuda, where the three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington is bidding to claim the £350,000 winners prize.

Trying to stop him is US Masters winner, Trevor Immelman of South Africa, along with fellow countryman Retief Goosen, with the final man of the group World No. 12 Jim Furyk.

An interesting first day saw Harrington and Furyk post two under 68s, two clear of Goosen on level - but it seemed a big struggle for Immelman who posted a 76.

A dodgy forecast at Mid Ocean did not deplete the enthusiastic crowds keen to get a glimpse of the most exclusive golfing event of the year. Rain beckoned but fortunately didn’t appear - a series of gusty winds proved to be the difference between the players, especially Immelman, who was completely out of rhythm.

Goosen who has had a poor season by his high standards, with no wins, is eager to open his account for 2008. With nine top-10s in 2008, Furyk is having yet another solid year. Besides Immelman’s maiden Major victory, he has only showed glimpses of his top form, such as the Tour Championship and the Stanford St Jude Championship, where he finished inside the top-3 on both occasions.

Conversely, Harrington made his mark in last year by claiming his first Major at the Open Championship, then to add a further two in 2008 was quite astonishing golf by the European. His form has continued throughout the year and he has accumulated six top-10 finishes.
