Henrik Stenson wins Nedbank Challenge Cup in South Africa's Sun City

Henrik Stenson wins Nedbank Challenege Cup in South Africa's Sun City at the Gary Player Country Club

Fresh off the back of a Swedish victory at last week's World Cup of Golf, Henrik Stenson has walked away with the Nedbank Challenge Cup.

He is the first Swede to ever win the event at Gary Player Country Club and is the first European to win the tournament since 2003.

He closed the final round with a nine-shot victory on 68, after leading from the start. The four-under effort put him 21-under par for the whole tour - well clear from second place, Kenny Perry.

Perry did secure the best closing round of the final day on 65, however, Stenson began the final round with an eight-shot advantage over the American and managed four birdies in six holes to secure his victory.

The Swede walked away with a cheque for $1.2m saying: "An eight-shot lead going into the final round made me feel pretty comfortable, and I just went out there and took care of business."

His World Cup Of Golf partner Robert Karlsson ended the tour in third, after losing his second place in the final round to Perry.

Home player Rory Sabbatini (70) ended in fourth, while Ryder Cup compatriots Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood finished on 70 and 72 respectively.

The NGC at Sun City is a fantastic tournament on a fantastic golf course. The TV coverage makes it one of the best armchair golf events of the year although I would much rather listen to Ewen Murray than Jime Kelly.

I have attended the tournament many times and would encourage golf fans to make a trip out there. It is fantastically well organised and if you like a bet on th egolf, on course betting makes each day very exciting even if there is a runaway winner like Stenson this year.
