Geoff Ogilvy wins first-ever Australian PGA Championship

Geoff Ogilvy wins the Australian PGA Championship

Geoff Ogilvy has won the Australian PGA Championship with a two-shot victory - his first ever tour win on home-soil.

The Victorian-born Ogilvy closed the tour with a three-under-par 69 which left him with a 14-under-par total of 274.

The 31 year old said: "There is an element where you'd think it would be easier because it is not a US tour field - it's a great field but there's no Mickelson, Garcia and Woods and all that. You'd say world ranking-wise it might be bit easier but it's not. We only get two or three chances a year, versus 20-something chances a year in the US."

After four international wins including the US Open two years ago, Ogilvy has been waiting to win his first major tour in his home country.

Ogilvy's win was helped by a mid-round collapse by Matthew Goggin who had intially led the third round but lost shots at the ninth and 10th, pulled his second shot on the par-five 15th into the water and made three bogeys in seven holes. It would have been his first title in nearly 10 years.

Peter Senior, Scott Strange and Rod Pampling finished tied for third at an 11-under 277.
