From the Callaway Diablo driver to Wilson’s Di9 irons, there’s plenty of new kit breaking onto the shelves, all competing for your attention in 2009. Here, we cast our eye over seven of the most exciting new releases.

1. New Callaway Diablo driver
The major talking point here is about the shape of the Callaway Diablo woods. Designed to help players square the face especially when they swing the club quickly, the draw bias version has more mass situated towards heel. An interesting idea that makes for an unusual look, we reckon it’s well worth a try if you suffer with a left-to-right shape.

2. New Titleist Vokey wedges £93
A huge number of bounce and loft options mean that every player should be able to find a wedge line-up to cope with all conditions. These classic looking wedges come in three different finishes Chrome, Oil Can, and Black Nickel.

3. Wilson Di9 irons £379
In their Di9 model Wilson has produced an iron that golfers of differing abilities will enjoy. They are extremely forgiving without looking too chunky and the sweetspot here has been moved slightly nearer the toe to match the strike pattern of the majority of golfers.

4. Nike VR Forged split cavity irons £720
Nike has launched a whole new range of irons and drivers but for us, the pick of the bunch is the new shallow cavity forged irons. From address they look classic and the performance offers many of the benefits of a bladed iron. However, there is a generous cavity in the back to help you enjoy more consistent ball striking.

5. New Cleveland Launcher driver £219
Cleveland has got the feel off the face and impact noise spot-on here. The Launcher head is powerful and forgiving. It’s a must-try for anyone thinking of picking up a new driver.

6. Odyssey Teron putter
For 2009, Odyssey are boldly delivering new shapes that will undoubtedly grab your attention. The Teron model is certainly one of these and with a great feel off the face and stability through impact, the technological benefits are hard to ignore.

7. Mizuno MP-52 irons £85 per iron
Like Nike’s VR irons, Mizuno has delivered on feel and forgiveness here. Their classic look has been injected with enough margin for error to attract a broad spectrum of playing abilities.
