The wedge is one of the most versatile clubs in the bag. Forget the wrench for your driver or whether to use cavity back or forged irons, because it’s the wedge that has more options that almost any other club. Think lie, bounce, weight, finish and head shape.
Last week we gave you a small selection of modern putters to mull over. Before that, we highlighted six sets of irons under £400 featuring all the latest technology – proving it’s not all about spending big money.
The following three wedges utilise a number of new technological advances that promise to improve feel and control:
Cleveland CG14 wedge
The Gelback technology is placed behind the hitting area to remove unwanted vibrations on mis-hits. Grooves are milled to maximum dimensions for control.

Titleist Vokey Spin Milled wedge
Loft ranges from 48° to 64° with varying bounces options. A total of 56 different models are available. Grooves have 30% more volume than a conventional wedge.

TaylorMade Z TP wedge
The Z grooves have 10% more volume than TaylorMade’s Y grooves to help prevent grass, mud or moisture affecting the shot while sharp groove edges provide more spin.
