Golf Monthly May issue news

Paul Casey

Paul Casey gives his advice on better iron play in the Golf Monthly May Issue.

The month of May has a really great sound to it. Although it’s still March, we really can get excited now about the season ahead. And, what better way to celebrate the start of the new season by offering you the chance to WIN a round of golf with teenage sensation Rory McIlroy. See our competitions page for further details.

On top of that we caught up with Martin Laird to find out why the first Scot to have won on the US Nationwide Tour has never played a pro event in his homeland. Other new features include GM Classics where we review Johnny Miller’s domination of the mid 1970s. And Action Replay looks back at the 2000 US Open when Tiger Woods won by 15 strokes – timely considering his recent much-awaited comeback.

Instruction-wise, Paul Casey provides six methods for better ball striking. David Howell gives us some advice on preparation. Golf Monthly Top 25 Coach Paul Ashwell dissects the swing of the English Boys Champion, Stiggy Hodgson. With Gary Leboff helping the mental side of your game, we've got all angles covered.

Golf Monthly May 2009 Issue

Golf Monthly May Issue

In terms of equipment, we review some great new arrivals, notably the Callaway Big Bertha Diablo irons, Cobra SZ irons, TaylorMade R9 woods, and the Titleist 909H utility. We also take a look at those all-important little white objects that we chase around in a review of the six types of balls currently played on the worldwide Tours. All this plus your FREE Equipment Guide for 2009, a comprehensive review of over 230 products sure to help you get your perfect bag ready for the new season.

There’s all the regular features including your letters, an Olympic debate, and some great local knowledge where you can take a trip to Cornwall with our very own Jeremy Ellwood.

Finally, Golf Monthly’s Forum held their first event at Goswick Links near Berwick-upon-Tweed as England members took on their Scottish rivals. To find out how they got on, don’t forget to pick up your May Issue and feel free to join the great debate in the Golf Monthly Forum.

Enjoy.
