Value golf courses in GB&I: East Midlands

Kirby Muxloe

GF: £35 STATS: par 71, sss 71, 6428 yards
T: 0116 239 3457 W: kirbymuxloe-golf.co.uk

Established in 1893, Kirby Muxloe Golf Club in Leicester has a rich golfing history. The original nine holes were modified by Old Tom Morris and the layout was extended to 18 holes in 1926. It’s a parkland course with a stream coming into play on a number of holes plus a lake over the closing stretch. Visitors can make use of the good practice facilities – a driving range and short-game area.

Beeston Fields

GF: £34 STATS: par 71, sss 71, 6,430 yards
T: 0115 9257062 W: beestonfields.co.uk

Designed by Tom Williamson in 1923, Beeston Fields is a well-kept parkland layout just a short drive from Nottingham’s city centre. The beautiful clubhouse here dates from 1837 and was formerly the home of Harold Bowden – founder of the Raleigh Cycle Company.

Chevin

GF: £35 STATS: par 69, sss 69, 6,072 yards
T: 01332 841112 W: chevingolf.co.uk

Chevin opened for play as a nine-holer in 1894 with Tom Williamson and the renowned James Braid cutting the ribbon. It lies in Duffield just north of Derby and the current 18-holer plays over terrain that is a mix of parkland and moorland, working its way up onto the Chevin Ridge around the turn from where five counties can be seen on a clear day. On the climb you’ll encounter the aptly named Tribulation hole – the 8th – an uphill 381-yarder that plays considerably longer.
