Oskar Henningsson wins Moravia Silesia Open

Sweden’s Oskar Hennignsson claimed his maiden European Tour victory with a two shot win over the English duo of Sam Little and Steve Webster at the Moravia Silesia Open presented by ALO Diamonds.

The 23-year-old played himself into contention with a third round of five-under-par 67 but was still three shots adrift of Webster with 18 holes to play.

But, the young Swede birdied three of his first eight holes in the final round and joined the leaders. Two more birdies on the back nine gave Henningsson a clear lead and he could afford to bogey the final hole and remain two shots clear.

“I'm very happy but I'm tired at the moment.” He said. “I've not realised what I have done yet. I've a ten hour trip home by car so I will have a lot of time to think about it and what I have done.”

Henningsson, who won last autumn’s qualifying school, had a previous best tour finish of tied fourth and, with the winner’s cheque of €333,330 for this tournament, quadrupled his season’s earnings. He follows Jose Maria Olazabal and Gordon Brand Jnr as the only players to win qualifying school and then secure a victory in their first season on tour.

“It would be fantastic if I could have a career like theirs. Hopefully this is the starting point for me to achieve similar things to what they have done,” he said.

Henningsson has climbed to 42nd in the inaugural Race to Dubai and has earned a two-year exemption on Tour.
