Lee Westwood opens his first golf school
Championship golfer Lee Westwood has taken time out from his Ryder Cup preparations to officially open his first Golf School at the Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa.
Aimed at young golfers aged 16 and over, the Lee Westwood Golf School will follow a unique structured full time programme to develop and enhance the students' golf, education, lifestyle, psychology and fitness over two years.
Alongside the unique golf training programme, all students work toward a BTEC Extended National Diploma in Sport (3 x A Level equiv), delivering a great platform for launching into such an interesting and varied industry - albeit as a playing professional, continuing into further education or working within the golf or associated industry sectors.
Lee's involvement within the School, provides unrivalled access to unique training methods, experienced coaches and insider knowledge.
School Director Karl Morris and his team, have a great deal of experience to bring to the School, having founded the Junior Golf Academy - now Darren Clarke Golf School, in Northern Ireland.
"Our proven experience of developing young talent, coupled with unique personalised coaching methods, use of latest technology and working with a high quality of coach ensures that the programme and its delivery are world class - as would be expected", stated Karl.
Lee Westwood commented: "I am extremely proud to launch the Golf School today and can't wait to see students develop and progress after having access to such fantastic facilities and tuition. The school is designed to offer young golfers the opportunity to follow their dreams - whether as a PGA playing professional, teaching professional or continuing into higher education. We are offering world class facilities, coaching and training methods, which is why I am so pleased to be working with the Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa as their facilities are some of the best in the UK and have already established them as a world class championship golf venue."
Mark Lyttleton-Frances, Regional General Manager at Macdonald Hotels adds: "We are delighted that Lee Westwood has chosen Macdonald Portal for his inaugural Golf School. The stunning Cheshire property not only boasts some exceptional golf facilities, but is set in beautiful English countryside alongside an award-winning hotel. We all look forward to supporting Lee and wish him, and the school's students, all the best during their training programme."
The programme is supported and endorsed by the English Golf Union (EGU) and the Golf Foundation and the School is proud to announce that PING, Dunlop and UPS have become sponsors. For more information on the Lee Westwood Golf School call 0844 879 3467 or visit www.leewestwoodgolfschool.com

I think this is a great move but think UK golf is missing the big picture. By 16 in the U.S if they hadn't made it they would be dropped, where is the support for the real youngsters. My son is 6 and has played for the last 2 & half years if it wasn't for Bawtry golf club he would have been left stranded, they changed the clubs rules to allow him to play at 5 even though there rule is 7 and over. He has now been picked for the junior section but other clubs will not let him play against them due to age. Or maybe its the fear that their best youngsters may be beaten by a 6 yr old playing off 36 already. Local rules and the PGA need to address this .In America, Tiger was appearing on TV at the same age but here isn't allowed to make the 1st tee.
