New TaylorMade R11 driver

The new TaylorMade R11 driver

Just as the February issue of Golf Monthly was having its finishing touches added we received the first official information about the exciting launch of the new TaylorMade R11 driver. We immediately stopped the presses to give you an exclusive first look at the most anticipated driver of 2011.

The main story behind the TaylorMade R11 is the introduction of a striking white clubhead that will make this TaylorMade's most recognisable driver ever. The contrast between the black face and white crown has been designed to help players become more acutely aware of their alignment at address, while also giving the driver stand-out shelf appeal.

The white finish also makes, TaylorMade says, the 440cc clubhead look slightly larger and easier to hit than other similar sized clubs on the market.

There is also important new technology at play within the R11 as it offers three areas of independent adjustability. Players will now have the option to separately customise the face angle, loft and weighting of the driver to find a combination that is tailored to their own individual games.

The combination of these three adjustable elements means the R11 can be set up in 48 different ways. TaylorMade's tour players are currently testing the R11 and you can expect to see many of them put this new white driver into play at the beginning of 2011.

The Golf Monthly Test Team will shortly be putting the driver to the test and you can read our reviews and verdicts in March's issue.

I have tried most of the weight adjustable drivers over the years, the R7, Mizuno MP600, Nike str8 fit. None of them have made any difference to my game whatsoever. They never enabled me to hit the ball any better than I did with any other standard driver. Having tinkered with my game for so long I ended up with a driver that did not really suit me at all, so I went for a fitting this morning at a local club that I have used before for and found to be excellent (West Malling in kent). I hit balls with my own driver first of all using the trackman machine, and as I suspected all the readings that I had were basically wrong for me. Tried another Ping driver with a better shaft and head, still no real difference. High weak fade/slice not a lot of hang time and little spin. The Pro then set up the R11, what an amazing difference. The slice became a very gentle fade sometimes becomming a slight draw. The ball flight was long and penetrating, hang time improved by about 2 seconds. The ball ran out on hitting the ground and it just felt fabulous. I was devastated. The most expensive club in the rack and it would have to be the one that suited me the best. Anyway they gave me a great price for my driver and the deal was done. Now can't wait to get to the course and out it to the test. Single figures here we come.
