Golf Monthly Centenary Society day - Marriott Hollins Hall

Marriott Hollins Hall was the venue for the second Golf Monthly Society day, as readers battled it out for a place in the Grand Final at the Forest of Arden in October

Golf Monthly readers were treated to sunny weather and immaculate greens as they competed at Marriott Hollins Hall in the second Golf Monthly Centenary Society day. Three places in the final at Marriott Forest of Arden were up for grabs and, despite breezy conditions, there was some impressive golf on show.

Hollins Hall is set amongst 200 acres of Yorkshire Moorland, with stunning views across Baildon Moor and Aire Valley. Designed by Ross McMurray of European Golf Designs, the course features wide fairways that encourage the driver to be hit throughout the round. Protection is provided courtesy of huge, undulating greens that reward accurate approach play.

A strong breeze meant that the more exposed front nine was particularly challenging, proved by many of the competitors, who scored better on the more protected back nine. 

Round of the day, undoubtedly, went to 16 handicapper Ben Muncaster, who raced to victory in the 15 and over handicap category with a superb score of 41 Stableford points. This was good enough for victory by an amazing 7 points from second place Carl Plumpton. 

Things were much closer in the 11-14 handicap category with David McHale taking the win by just 1 point from Dean Smith. David's 35 points included a very impressive 2 on the difficult 15th hole, which was one of only two made there all day.

Finally 7 handicapper Matthew Harper put together a very solid round of 36 points to take the win in the 10 and under handicap category. In a round that began with five straight fours Matthew also claimed victory by a single point.

The three winners were provided prizes courtesy of Srixon/Cleveland Golf and they will meet again at the Marriott Forest of Arden for the Grand Final where they will compete against other regional winners.
