Rory McIlroy has been voted PGA Tour Player of the Year by his peers in recognition of an outstanding season in America.

The 23-year-old recorded ten top-10 finishes and four victories in 2012, which included a record-breaking eight-shot triumph at the PGA Championship and back-to-back FedEx Cup play-off wins.

He earned $8,074,952 throughout the course of the PGA Tour season to top the money list, and finished second in the FedEx Cup. His year-long scoring average of 68.87 was also the lowest of anyone on tour.

John Huh has also been voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

The 22 year-old was the only rookie to make it into the Tour Championship, finishing 29th in the FedEx Cup and 28th on the Money List with $2,692,113 in earnings.

Huh won his first PGA Tour title at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, where he defeated veteran Robert Allenby in an eight-hole play-off.

"On behalf of the PGA Tour, my congratulations to Rory and John for their outstanding accomplishments this season," said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem.

"These awards are significant to these players as they are bestowed upon them by their peers, one of the highest compliments a player can receive."

McIlroy was chosen above Jason Dufner, Brandt Snedeker, Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods, while Huh prevailed over Ted Potter Jnr, Charlie Beljan, Jonas Blixt and Bud Cauley.
