US Masters A-Z: Amen Corner to Immelman
A – Amen Corner. The famous name given to Augusta’s 11th (White Dogwood), 12th (Golden Bell) and 13th (Azalea) holes. When the wind picks up, this little stretch gets interesting. Such great viewing, you can now tune in specifically to watch these three holes.
B – ‘Bobby’ Jones. Co-founder and designer of the Augusta National Golf Course with Clifford Roberts. Located at the base of the flagpole in front of the Clubhouse, the Founders Circle features two plaques dedicated to founding members Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts.
C – Caddies. Before 1982 all players in the US Masters were required to use the services of an Augusta National Club caddie.
D – Dogleg. There are six holes at Augusta with doglegs; 1st (Tea Olive), 2nd (Pink Dogwood), 5th (Magnolia), 9th (Carolina Cherry), 13th (Azalea) and 18th (Holly). Phil Mickelson shaped the ball superbly on these holes to claim the green jacket in 2004.
E – Even par. Only the best are able to break even on this course. It requires precision off the tee, masterful approach play and a solid short game.
F – Faldo. Three times a winner of this great Major, most recently in 1996 when Nick Faldo chased down a heartbroken Greg Norman.
G – Green Jacket. The most sought-after piece of clothing in golf is awarded to the winner.
H – Hootie Johnson. Current "Chairman Emeritus" of the Augusta National Golf Club.
I – Immelman. The 2008 winner copped a bit of flack for the manner of his victory, but Trevor Immelman became the first South African to win the US Masters since Gary Player in 1978.
