US Masters A-Z: Jack Nicklaus to Sam Snead

Jack Nicklaus

Jack Nicklaus, six-times US Masters winner features in the Augusta Masters A-Z

J – Jack Nicklaus. With six Masters titles, his last in 1986, The
Golden Bear
has given Augusta plenty of wonderful memories over the years.

K – Keiser. Herman Keiser won the 1946 US Masters after the tournament was cancelled from 1943-1945 due to World War II.

L – Langer. Bernhard Langer is a two-time winner at the US Masters, his first win came in 1985 with a final score of 6-under par, the second in 1993 at 11-under par.

M – Magnolia Drive. The famous road leading into Augusta National, where the adrenaline really starts flowing.

N – Norman. Greg Norman has never got the job done at Augusta, perhaps, and sadly, best remembered for his 1996 final day collapse to Nick Faldo.

O – Opening tee-off. Since 1963 the custom in most years has been to start the tournament with an honorary opening tee shot at the first hole. Arnold Palmer has done this for the past two tournaments.

P – Patrons. The watching crowd are not spectators but patrons.

Q - Quotation. Many famous golfing quotations have come from the Augusta
National.
From Robert Di Vicenzo’s "What a stupid I am" to Scott Hoch’s "I’m glad I don’t carry a gun with me"

R – Rae’s Creek. Has claimed many a victim at the par 3 12th hole (Golden Bell). Named after John Rae, who died in 1789.

S – Sam Snead. Masters legend that played the honorary opening tee-off until he passed away in 2002.
