Angel Cabrera: Third-round 69
Big-hitting Argentine Angel Cabrera will head the field in Sunday’s US Masters final round with 48-year-old Kenny Perry, who is aiming to become the oldest player to win the coveted Green Jacket.
Cabrera, who started the third round on eight-under-par, shot a three-under 69. It was a day of moderately low scoring compared to the opening two rounds, with five players shooting a Saturday-best 68.
One of those was 2003 US Open winner Jim Furyk, who carded only one bogey in his round to move up to fourth place on eight-under-par.
First-round lead Chad Campbell (-9) will play in the second-to-last group with Furyk, while Steve Striker (-7) and South African, Rory Sabbatini (-6) will be out third to last.
“For me, the Majors are all the same,” said Cabrera. “They are all big tournaments. But it is very important to have the experience of having played lots of times. Experience on this course is a big role.”
It was another day of disappointment for World No.1 Tiger Woods, whose two-under-par 70 keeps him seven shots back in a tie for tenth place.
The Sunday pairing that everyone would have wanted before
the tournament has materialised though, with world numbers one and two, Woods and Phil Mickelson, out at
6.35pm BST. However, it will surely take a monumental effort for either
to challenge the top of the leaderboard from four-under-par.
Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood are the highest-placed of the Europeans. Both shot 70 and are among nine players on four-under-par.
