Tiger Woods took a huge step last night towards patching up his differences with the US press by attending the Golf Writers of America's annual Augusta dinner.
According to sources within the media centre, Woods received a standing ovation from three quarters of the room upon arrival. His decision to attend marks yet another show of contrition in a bid to win over the industry and the greater public. Whether he would receive the same reception from the more cynical UK press however, is doubtful.
Yesterday we reported that Tiger Woods would be playing in the par-3 competition but as the afternoon wore on it became clear that this was not going to happen. Woods had put his name down to play but later withdrew. His decision not to show came soon after Billy Payne's scathing comments in his annual press conference.
