US Open 2016 Oakmont Country Club: Hole 17

At 313 yards the 17th makes for excitement

A guide to the seventeenth hole at Oakmont Country Club ahead of the 2016 US Open

US Open 2016 Oakmont Country Club: Hole 17

Hole 17 - Par 4 - 313 yards

Another hole that may well decide the fate of the US Open trophy.

At just 313 yards the green will be drivable for most, especially in dry, fast conditions.

There are two shots to play from the tee - an iron down the right, or a driver or 3-wood straight at the green.

The drive has to carry six bunkers around 50 yards short of the green and once over them the ball can run up onto the green that is protected by bunkers from right, left and at the back.

If you choose to lay up here you have to hit your wedge over the bunker simply known as 'Big Mouth' for obvious reasons.

The green is raised though, so anything that misses it will be a tricky up-and-down.

You'd expect players to make a three here, and we may even see eagles.

It will certainly make for some excitement.
