McLachlin Earns USPGA Spot

Hawaii’s Parker McLachlin will make his debut at the USPGA Championship after his maiden PGA Tour win at the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open last week.

It will be the 29-year-old’s first Major Championship appearance since he qualified for the 2004 US Open at Shinnecock Hills, where he missed the halfway cut.

McLachlin - in only his second season on Tour - took full advantage of a slightly weak field, with the top 50 gofers in the world all busy battling it out at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

“This is a huge stepping stone for me,” said McLachlin, who sauntered to victory by seven strokes, despite a final round of 74. “It feels like it has been a long time coming.”

The 2006 Qualifying School graduate can now look forward to pegging it up at Oakland Hills with the world’s best, and with the USPGA Championship’s history of throwing up surprise winners, he will have his sights firmly set on the Wanamaker Trophy.
