This place is steeped in the history of the game. Dr. Alistair Mackenzie, creator of the magnificent Augusta, did the original design before the Moor Allerton committee decided to up sticks and move to a new site a few miles away on the edge of the small village of Wike.

Set in 220 acres of undulating Yorkshire countryside with streams and lakes the new Fulford Heath was designed by the equally eminent Robert Trent Jones. On top of that the ubiquitous Peter Alliss was professional here for a number of years.

The course is laid out in three separate loops of nine holes which gives members and visitors the option of playing three courses – The Lakes, Blackmoor and High.

The latter is regarded as the toughest with a stiff standard scratch of 74 against a par of 72 but all three are excellent layouts which will test even the best players.

Indeed, the course has the distinction of having held a number of major national and international events with many world-class players including Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Gary Player, Henry Cotton and Greg Norman striding the fairways.

Best Hole: 1st, 448 yards par 4. The opener will test the nerves of the lower handicapper. The drive needs to be steered down the left before an approach over a ravine and dyke to well-guarded green on two levels.
