Stoke Park GC

Take a trip to Slough. No seriously, you'll find an enjoyable day out at Stoke Park.

Stoke Park sits firmly within the new skool of top British courses. A long, winding drive through well-maintained grounds will bring you to a beautiful old clubhouse used as the setting for two of Bond's finest adventures, Goldfinger and Tomorrow Never Dies. Get there in plenty of time for a sausage sarnie and coffee in the luxurious clubhouse and then head out for warm up on the excellent practice area and get your eye in with a few putts on the largest green you've ever seen.

The course itself has three sets of nine holes the Colt, Ailson and Jackson each of which are well designed to offer an interesting challenge. And if you want to return with a decent score you'll need a solid long game. Par 4s over 400 hundred yards come thick and fast and represent the key to a good score. Prevent a big number from creeping in and you should be fine.

The fairways might appear narrow from the tees but are actually fairly generous and the bunkers, rough and trees that surround them aren't too punishing. The greens are large and slippery but receive a well-struck shot well.

Off course the facilities live up to the billing and include a selection of eateries, elegant rooms and an award winning spa.

A day out at Stoke Park might seem a bit pricey, but as a one off treat you know it makes sense. After all everyone deserves a taste of the finer things in life now and then!

Best Hole: The 7th on the Colt is probably the most memorable hole, it has the look of the 12th at Augusta and any tee shot leeking right will find water.
