Best Women's Golf Shirts
Why you can trust Golf Monthly
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 2 (Bright White, Black Iris)
+ Sustainable Option made from recycled materials
+ Moisture wicking makes it great for layering
- Side detailing can make look unflattering
A beautifully fitted top and one perfect for layering up this winter. The material is super stretchy and fits to your shape, it also wicks moisture so will keep you at an optimum temperature.
This is a sustainable option (something brands like Adidas were early to the party with) as it’s made up from 40% plastic bottles so you’re doing your bit environmentally on this one. What's more, we though that the collar is super smart and the detailing on the bust area is really flattering. As this goes lower the white on the black iris colourway shows any lumps and bumps and, with the fit, we would recommend going up a size.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 2 (Cool Gray/Coral/White, Navy/White/Blue Bell)
+ Exceptionally comfortable
+ Good quality and eye catching design
- Only two color options
The Malena polo shirt in cool gray/coral/white surprisingly looks so much better on than off! Probably best worn tucked in, it's a loose-fitting shirt, but really nicely styled with open end sleeves and side panels that give it a sporty and relaxed appearance. The stretch fabric, which also offers UV protection 20+, is incredibly fine and light, and feels soft against the skin, so you couldn't ask for a more comfortable shirt to play golf in.
It has a three-button placket, and the only other notable detail is 'Galvin Green' embossed on the back of the tailored collar. The colorway and all-over pattern are unusual and, while this shirt won't suit everyone, it will definitely draw positive attention. Another plus is that it's machine washable and quick-dry, so low maintenance.
Sizes: 6-20
Colors: 3 (Black Multi, Purple Plum Multi, Stone Blue Multi)
+ Useful layer
+ Exceptionally soft fabric
- Might not like pattern
Ping’s Zenya long-sleeve top is designed in three seasonal colors – black multi, purple plum multi, and stone blue multi - It has an eye-catching pattern on the side and sleeve panels, as well as inside the collar, with the top really complementing Ping’s Lola reversible vest, which has the same all-over pattern on one side.
An embossed silver Ping logo on the right shoulder is also a nice touch, with another big positive being that the fabric is extremely soft and noticeably stretchy. We liked the half zip because, depending on the weather, you can use this to help regulate your body temperature. While this top feels very comfortable over 18 holes and will come in very useful during the autumn/winter season, it’s fairly loose fitting, so if you prefer a more fitted top, we would suggest down-sizing.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 3 (White, Sage, Instaria print)
+ Chic styling
+ Versatile
+ Alternative to a normal sleeveless shirt
- Clever bra choice is needed
A fantastic top that features a mock neck and back design that'll deliver plenty of comfort during your round. The colors of the Macade range are beautiful. The sage green in this is my favourite. The material is quite easily wrinkled and any spills (this had a hit of coffee) are hard to shift without washing it. It feels very decadent and up market, fabric that you’d find in Reiss garments. But do not be fooled… this feels super delicate yet, thanks to being Nylon and Viscose, it washes like an absolute dream.
The fabulous thing about these beautiful pieces is that you could wear this sweater and the Macade Joggers with heels and have yourself a killer going “out out” get up. I’d definitely size up on this top as the colour and material begs to be a bit more generous in fit. It is one of the smartest looking tops around that delivers lots of comfort, style and breathability.
Sizes: UK 6-20
Colors: Four different print designs
+ Excellent fitting shirt
+ Comfortable material
- Print might not suit everyone
PING’s Iona polo shirt comes in four print designs including Laguna Beach, which is a textured print with aqua tones and a contrasting hot Flamingo pink that makes for an extremely eye-catching shirt. The pattern is vibrant and cool, and is certainly a winner for any golfer looking to make a statement on the course. It’s made in a polyester and elastane mix incorporating PING’s SensorCool technology for moisture management, which means this lightweight and stretchy shirt allows you to swing freely and stay comfortable whatever the weather.
It’s a flattering fit that can easily be worn tucked in or outside your bottom half. A white collar and a white placket with four metallic buttons complement nicely the vibrant pattern, while the subtle PING logo on the right-hand sleeve is another elegant touch. This shirt is also crease resistant and quick-drying, which is always a bonus.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colours: 3 (Coral, White, Navy)
+ Luxurious feel
+ Easy to move in
- Not a great option if you prefer sleeves
FORELSON is a new brand for spring/summer 2023 and includes the Stow Sleeveless polo shirt, which forms part of the collection’s navy/orange combo. The silky-smooth fabric is impressive, as while it feels slightly thicker compared with other shirts on the market, the quality is first-class and is satisfyingly lightweight and stretchy, so it doesn’t restrict your swing.
It also provides an excellent UPF50 sun protection and the mesh panel down the spine that'll keep you cool in the sun, as well as around the front of each armhole, not only makes this shirt highly breathable, but adds to its attractive design. The color orange is very subtle, featuring on the inside of the split hem, inside the collar, plus the top button of the placket. It’s true to size and doesn’t gape under the arms, which can be problematic with some sleeveless shirts.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 4 (White, Navy, Pink, Blue)
+ Great for warmer temperatures
+ Helps alleviate golfer's tan
- Not a great option if you're looking for sleeves
It’s almost a hybrid of a shirt and sleeveless, which many athletic golfers will find very flattering on the arms and will also minimize the golfer's tan somewhat.
If you are larger in the arms, then we’d recommend going up a size as the capped sleeve is well-fitted. This will make a great match with FootJoy's Interlock Skort and features the same levels of comfort and practicality you've come to expect from a FootJoy garment.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 7 (Pink, Royal Blue, Clear Sky, Red, Navy, Black)
+ Lightweight
+ Comfortable
+ Seven stylish color options
- Won't keep you overly warm
Adidas is making waves with its use of recycled materials in its shoes and clothing – this new Primegreen polo shirt being no exception. If you're someone looking to reduce your carbon footprint on the course then look no further than this environmentally sustainable golf shirt.
Made out of top-quality materials, we loved how lightweight this shirt was to wear. The shirt feels soft on your skin and is really comfortable to wear.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 4 (Aqua White, White Iris, White Black, White Begonia)
+ Good quality
+ Attractive styling and comfortable material
- Neckline might not suit everyone
Featuring in four color options – white/iris, white/black, white/begonia or white/aqua, we thought the white/iris colour option is great because the Brook shorts have the same colour coordinated stripe down the side.
It has an unusual V-shape neckline and a pink/purplish stripe runs below the navy shoulders and cup sleeves front and back, giving it a stand-out design, while the Abacus logo on the left sleeve is a stylish add-on. It’s extremely stretchy, so very comfortable and, compared with many other tops on the market, it has a smooth, brushed cotton feel that keeps you cool and dry. This top is true to size, has a feminine cut, but the fit is not too skimpy and best suited tucked in.
Sizes: XS-XL
Colors: 1 (Grey/White)
+ Fantastic value for such high-quality, soft fabric
+ Looks good and feels comfortable
- Tropical print only available in two color options

That is evidenced here in this fantastic top, which is exceptionally stretchy and delivers superb comfort around the golf course. The all-over tropical flowery print combines lovely shades of greyish blues on a white background.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 2 (Red, Green)
+ Subtle yet elegant styling
+ dryCELL technology makes it very comfortable
- V-neck is not great for every player
Another great offering from Puma is the Polka Dye polo shirt. Spots are a style trend and the all-over polka dot tie-dye design of this shirt makes it an attractive option for many types of players. It is one of the best women's golf shirts on the market and we particularly like the open V-neck and the subtle signature PUMA cat patch on the left hip. The stretchy and lightweight material, along with the effect of dryCELL technology makes it comfortable to wear. It also comes in at a great price point, putting it on par with some of the best cheap golf polo shirts out there. It shirt ticks all the right boxes in that sense.
Sizes: S-XL
Colors: 4 (Pink, Green, Blue, White)
+ ProDry cooling technology keeps you cool on the course
+ Excellent comfort and freedom of movement
- Maybe a little too lightweight

How we test golf clothing
Here at Golf Monthly, our testing for golf clothes is built upon a comprehensive process combined with the knowledge and expertise of the entire Golf Monthly test team, headed up by Katie Dawkins and Alison Root, who lead all female golf equipment reviews. As far as the specific procedure goes, prior to testing, the team will usually attend product launches and meet with the manufacturer's R&D experts to understand the new technology in each piece of clothing.
When it comes to testing golf clothes, we head out to the course to try the shirt over a number of rounds on the UK's best courses. We look to try to use each item in as many different conditions as possible to give us the best feel of how these shirts perform in sun, rain and snow. We think it is vitally important to do both and continue to test the shirts so they have been comprehensively put to the test in many different conditions. It should also be mentioned that manufacturers cannot pay for a good review and we make our conclusions from the testing and our experiences.
What to consider when buying a polo shirt
There is a lot to consider when purchasing new golf shirts but we have some handy tips on several things you need to look out for to make sure you make the best purchase possible for you.
1. Size
The first thing to consider is the size and fit of the shirt that you're buying. Obviously, you don't want your clothes to be too tight as that will restrict your movement on the course preventing you from playing your best golf. Whatever type of shirt you're buying whether that's a long sleeve shirt or short sleeve shirt, pick a size that looks good, isn't too loose fitting, but also gives you a full range of movement.
2. Colors
As golf styling is becoming more modern, brands are designing clothes that have a wide variety of colors, designs and fabrics that suit every golfer. From bright colorways to traditional patterns, there are plenty of colors available to you, so pick the color shirt that you like the most.
3. Mobility
This is a vital consideration for any golfer as if you're constricted in your mobility then you're going to struggle to perform a full swing. Look for shirts that aren't too tight-fitting, but are also made of stretchy fabrics that can expand with your movements. One good thing to keep an eye out for is t-shirts that have panels on the sides that help you stretch up and down with the arc of your swing.
4. Breathability
Particularly if you're playing in warmer climates, having polos that are breathable and keep you feeling fresh and aerated on the course are important to helping you stay cool and play your best golf. There's nothing worse than being hot and uncomfortable during your round, so for that reason, look to buy clothes that can keep you cool on the course.
5. Durability
Golf polo shirts don't come cheap, so try to find the a shirt that is going to last. Look for quality materials that wont stain, tear or shrink easily.

FAQs
Why do golfers wear polo shirts?
Golf is a traditionalist sport and some traditions must be maintained, that includes certain dress codes. Wearing a collar maintains a smart look, a presentable image and is meant to create a sense of professionalism when playing.
Should I keep my polo shirt tucked in when playing golf?
Golfers don't always have to keep their shirts tucked in when playing golf. Some traditional courses demand that players keep their shirts tucked in when playing golf, but the majority of courses won't mind if you play with your shirt untucked. In some instances, untucking your shirt can also help improve your mobility and reach higher in your backswing.
Should I wear long sleeve polo shirts or short sleeve polo shirts?
Depending on the weather conditions you can wear either long or short sleeve polo shirts whenever you want. Long sleeve shirts are great if you're playing in either hot or cold weather as they can keep you warm but also keep the sun off your arms. But it may be more advisable to wear a short sleeve polo shirt when it gets hot on the course. Ultimately it is always down to your own personal preference.
