Course: £2.3 million Church refurbishment project was carried out from April 2010 and re-opened in June 2011. This involved modernising many of the technical aspects on the golf course since its opening 20 years ago and included: new bunker lining, new drainage (including a dramatic burn feature), bent grass greens replacement, thatch removal and installation of a new irrigation system. The project also allowed original course architect Robert Trent Jones Junior the opportunity to bring the nine in line with modern technology and add drama to the Church nine with new features, clearer risk/reward shot definition and strategy on every tee shot.
Panellists’ Comments: “The changes to the Church nine, whilst making it tougher, have also made it even more attractive and even more fun” – “Difficult to imagine a course in better condition” – “Not easy to get a game, but if you get the chance, grab it”
