94 THE ISLAND
Architect: F Hawtree 2006 position: 92 Stats: 6,312 yds; par 71; SSS 73 GF: €70-€135 T: 00353 1 8436 205 W: theislandgolfclub.com
The course opens with eight straight par 4s, which feel quite enclosed as one interesting hole in its own valley follows another.
The back nine opens with a wonderful par 5, a real gem, and the closing six holes are all memorable.
The 13th is similar to “Calamity” at Royal Portrush, then you have the narrowest fairway in Ireland at 14 followed by a wonderful par 5 played into a superb valley from a high tee.
The new par-3 16th is followed by two excellent, long par 4s.
There are some superb views of the estuary, and particularly of the quaint town and marina at Malahide. SP
