Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo Driver

Drivers can get awfully technical these days and while there are performance gains to be had through adjustability and a thorough custom fit, often the simple choice can reap the rewards too.

Editor’s Choice 2020

The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo driver is a classic example of this. It doesn’t have any confusing adjustability or mind-boggling shaft options, just simple, no-nonsence performance straight off the rack. It has been designed not only for speed, but to assist golfers that struggle with a slice thanks to its draw-biased design. This is not only through the weighting inside the head but via the alignment system on top too.

This driver features a stepped crown, which allows weight to be positioned more optimally. But when the edge of the dropped section is used for alignment, it encourages the clubface to sit a touch closed, helping golfers reduce their slice. Golfers accustomed to a neutral ball flight off the tee will enjoy being able to send balls out to right and watch them sail back to the centre of the fairway, provided a relatively centred strike was achieved.

Get the right loft and shaft flex in your hands and this driver will produce good carry distance, competitive with the premium brands. The loud sound off the face perhaps won’t be to everyone’s taste, but the overall performance certainly will. It launches high, helping those with slower swing speeds keep the ball in the air for longer, while the relatively low spin ensures distance isn’t compromised.

Pound for pound, this is unquestionably one of the best offerings on the driver market in 2020. If you want to hit fairways off the tee without shelling out a small fortune or sacrificing distance, it is an option well worth considering.
