Cobra King F9 Speedback Fairway
Fairway woods need to be easy to hit. That tiny clubhead staring back at you from an iffy lie doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence over the ball. But help is at hand from the Cobra King F9 Speedback model in the form of Baffler rails.
Refined over the years via feedback from tour players like Rickie Fowler, these little saviours help extract the ball from the worst of lies by getting the club through the grass with the minimum of fuss. They’re even a little taller in the higher lofts to account for the variance in angle of attack, which tends to be steeper as the club gets shorter.
Cobra has taken the rails and added a 15g tungsten back weight low and deep that increases the stability of the clubhead on off-centre hits. This is ably assisted by the Speedback shaping and carbon fibre crown, which pulls weight away from the face to help get the ball in the air more easily.
It’s adjustably too, from 13° all the way up to 21.5° or 24° in a draw setting, so regardless of the distance gap you need filling between your driver and hybrid, the King F9 Speedback can slot in perfectly.
Arguably one of the most impressive engineering feats is the CNC Milled Face, which delivers faster ball speeds than traditional hand-polished faces. This is down to more precise bulge and roll properties, helping golfers get the most from their swing speed regardless of where the ball is struck on the face.
The Cobra King F9 Speedback is arguably one of the most comprehensive, versatile fairway woods around (it even comes in a lower launching Tour version too) and can fulfill a host of tasks from varying situations around the course with a minimum of fuss and without a premium price tag.
