Ping i500 Irons
The Players’ Distance Iron category is booming at the moment and in i500, Ping has created one of the very best on the market. It slots in perfectly between the soft-feeling i210 and high-flying G410 for competent, mid-to-high swing speed golfers who want a smaller address profile without a loss of fire power.

Ultimately the i500 irons are aimed at golfers who want distance and forgiveness in a compact model that looks like a muscleback in the bag. This hollow iron has a forged face made from C300 maraging steel which is extremely strong but flexible for added ball speed. A new Hydropearl 2.0 chrome finish offers longer-lasting durability, as well as improved turf interaction and more consistency from the rough too. Finally there are also several different specs of iron and shaft which means nearly every ability of player can see and feel the benefits of the irons.
A Stunning Set
We believe these irons to be the finest looking set Ping have ever made. Clean and simple, the sizing is generous from heel to toe without looking chunky and there is also minimal offset through the set. They are beautiful from every angle, and the look in the bag is what average golfers aspire to play.
We also enjoyed the feel from the irons. They aren’t super soft like proper blades but they are noticeably explosive from the sweetspot which still sounds good acoustically. There is also minimal tail-off when you mishit shots so that is an added plus.
When we took a step back and took an analytical eye over all the irons on the market at the moment, there were only a few that truly delivered in terms of total package and the i500’s are most definitely one of those. Stunning, forgiving, consistent and therefore part of our 2019 Editors Choice List.
