Scotty Cameron Select Squareback
Since the early 1990s Scotty Cameron has been producing industry standard-setting putters. His iconic creations have been used by countless Major winners and have become classics of golf club design.
The Select Squareback is another fabulous looking flat stick. The shape takes influence from its stablemate the Newport 2 and Scotty describes it as a mid-mallet putter. To us, it’s a perfect blend of the classic and the modern.
Featuring a raw stainless-steel finish with a unique bead blast for a radiant, yet glare resistant appearance, the Squareback is beautiful to behold. Smaller, double-milled “cherry dots” on the heel and sole of the Squareback, inspired by Scotty’s familiar three bright translucent red dot theme, add to the aesthetics, while simplified, engraved typography reflects this modern, refined design.
Incredible sound and feel
The Squareback features Scotty’s MOI-enhancing 6061 aircraft aluminium face-sole technology. It’s fused to the stainless frame with a vibration-dampening system that delivers incredible sound and feel.
The putter has been engineered to account for the weight of the shaft and grip via a subtle re-distribution of sole metal from heel-to-toe and face-to-cavity. This means the putter sits squarely and aligns nicely at address.
Control and consistency
We found the feel of this putter to be exceptional, as you would always expect from a Scotty Cameron. But what really struck us was the perfect weighting and the quality of strike across the face. The radius milling delivers great consistency and we felt finding the distance on mid-range and even longer putts was made significantly easier.
It may be near the top-end of the price range for quality putters but the Scotty Cameron Select Squareback is worth the investment – It’s a brilliant looking club but, more importantly, the stability and exceptional feel off the face offer great confidence and surety through the stroke.
