Titleist TS1 Driver

Titleist has enjoyed great success with its TS2 and TS3 drivers since their launch, but the TS1, which was introduced last summer a little while after the TS4, has caught our eye because it targets a different player profile to most Titleist drivers.

Editor's Choice 2020

While the TS4, with its low-spin performance and smaller head size, was introduced later to cater primarily, but not exclusively, for high swing speed players, the TS1 sits at the opposite end of the spectrum seeking to provide maximum assistance to slower swing speed golfers who need a little more forgiveness and rely on high launch and increased spin to keep the ball up in the air for longer.

It also has an added built-in draw bias compared to the TS2, offering much-needed assistance to the far higher percentage of club golfers who struggle with a slice than a draw.

Lightness is key

The main key to the TS1’s performance is its weight, with everything being done to make the club as light as practically possible to help slow-to-moderate swing speed golfers optimise launch and distance. Shafts weigh from just 40-45g, grips are 20g lighter, the clubhead is 8g lighter than the TS2’s and the club weighs just 275g in total. You’ll notice this instantly when you swing the TS1.

In our testing, the TS1 clearly delivered on its promise, generating the extra spin promised, with its performance poles apart from the TS4’s in terms of spin and flight height.

This club is not for everyone, but the beauty of Titleist’s TS range is that it now caters for everyone, and slower-swinging ladies, juniors or seniors, for example, now have a Titleist driver option to help them get the very best out of their swings. Titleist still makes some of the best tour drivers on the market, but you don’t have to be tour-standard to find a Titleist driver for your game.
