Wilson Staff D7 Driver

Editor’s Choice 2019

Wilson Staff isn’t a brand known for its drivers but the new D7 model might just be one of the most underrated drivers of 2019. Considering its price it packs a serious amount of punch to the extent that with the lightweight feel, and with the right shaft flex and loft configuration, it no doubt has the ability to compete with the best drivers out there on the market.

Hidden Technology

Given that there is no sole weight or hosel adjustability and the fact you only have three different lofts and shaft flexes to choose from, you could be forgiven for thinking the D7 was too simplistic. But you’d be wrong thanks to various bits of technology in the club. For example a ‘Superlight’ design and Reactive Face combine for faster clubhead speed with increased ball speed and distance.

The crown features a layer of DuPont Kevlar sandwiched between two layers of carbon fibre to save weight and improve sound. Wilson have also implemented their Dynamic Launch Control which comprises progressive head weighting dependent on loft to suit different swing speeds, moving from forward in the 9° head to centre in the 10.5° and further back in the 13°.

Confidence Inspiring Feel

The lightweight overall feel allows you to swing it fast without any sensation of losing control or awareness of the clubface in the downswing and it feels incredibly solid and powerful especially when you strike it out of the middle of the club. At address it is appealing to the eye with its rounded shape and its oversized nature really inspires you to give it a rip. We were more than happy to do so in testing and got carry numbers that rivalled anything else out there on the market when we really middled one.

It was because of this solid performance and incredible value which led us to including the D7 in our Editors Choice List. For those of us seeking a confidence inspiring driver that doesn’t break the bank, we advise you to give this offering from Wilson Staff a go.
