Wilson Staff D7 Irons
Wilson Staff has occupied the value game improver iron sector with some fairly impressive options in recent years, notably the most recent D300iron,but the D7 looks to have improved upon it even further. An impressive all-round offering we saw some big gains in performance during testing and they make it into our Editors Choice List along with the Wilson Staff D7 driver.
For 2019 we’ve got even more Power Holes, three rows in fact, on the sole of the 4-7 irons but they no longer extend along the toe and topline of the club, creating a more traditional, cleaner address look. Moving into the 8- to 9-irons, this reduces to two rows and there’s just one row in the PW and GW to enhance precision. In short these holes combine with Wilson’s thinnest ever face, which help create more ball speed through added flexion.

At address, the D7 is very inviting to look down on. Long from heel-to-toe and with a chunky topline, it inspires confidence that a good shot is forthcoming. Yes even on the seven-iron you can see the back of the sole which may not suit everyone’s eye but we got over it quickly because of the performance on offer.
The D7 irons feel lively, stable and explosive off the face but they still don’t scream ‘distance iron’ at you like others.
An RRP of £469 for a seven-piece set is, quite frankly, a bit of a steal in a world of increasing club prices, saving you cash with seemingly little sacrifice in performance over premium brands.
The Wilson D7’s provide a clear progression and improvement on the D300 irons. They will save plenty of golfers a considerable amount of money compared to the more premium brands and yet there is seemingly no sacrifice in performance.
