Following last week’s US Open drama, the PGA Tour heads to Connecticut for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands, while the European Tour moves to Germany for the BMW International Open held at Golfclub Eichenried in Munich.

Both events have attracted strong fields, with the BMW marking further movement closer to the home of golf at St. Andrews for The Open in three weeks’ time.

GM Tips for this week:

USA 1: Harris English. English finished T-7th at The Travelers last year and has also had a respectable 3 Top 10s this year. He will know this tournament is a great chance to record his 3rd PGA Tour victory.

USA 2: Justin Thomas. Six of the past 9 Travelers Championship winners have made it their first, including the last 5. This trend could well continue with Thomas, who has had 5 Top 10s this year and is knocking on the door.

GB: Tommy Fleetwood. Fleetwood is enjoying a fantastic season on the European Tour, moving into the world’s top 50 and earning a creditable T-27th at last week’s US Open. He will fancy his chances in Munich, where he challenged in 2013 before falling off the pace over the weekend.

Ireland: Shane Lowry. Like Tommy Fleetwood, Lowry is enjoying his best season so far and was in real contention at the US Open, ultimately finishing 5 shots off the pace. He will feel he has a great chance in Germany, where he goes in as one of the favourites.

Scandinavia: Thomas Bjorn. Although Henrik Stenson is the favourite to win in Germany, Bjorn finished 2nd in Munich in 2013, when the BMW was last held here. He is a streaky player, but his past experience should make him a strong contender this week.

Rest of Europe: Sergio Garcia. Garcia played well at Chambers Bay and has had a decent season thus far. He was also runner up at The Travelers in 2014, where only Kevin Streelman’s back nine run wrestled his hands off the trophy.

Asia: Sangmoon Bae. Bae has recorded 4 Top 10s this season and had a respectable T-24th at The Travelers last season. He will look to add to his two PGA Tour wins this week.

South Africa: Louis Oosthuizen. It was only a poor first round 77 that stopped Oosthuizen from running away with this year’s US Open, so he is obviously in great form. He is arguably the favourite in Connecticut this week.

Australasia: Marc Leishman. After his wife’s recovery from illness, Leishman has been in fine form and is a past winner at The Travelers in 2012, where he collected his first PGA Tour victory. He may well reclaim the title this week.

South America: Fabrizio Zanotti. Zanotti is the defending BMW International Open champion and although he has had a quiet season thus far, he will look forward to defending his title.
