The PGA Tour came to a close over the weekend as Henrik Stenson pocketed the $10 million bonus after his win at the season ending Tour Championship.

If anyone deserved the payout it would be the Swede, whose consistency over the past few months has been simply sublime.

5 top 3's in his last 7 events, including 2 victories is the sort of form that only the elite can accomplish and he has now propelled himself to 4th in the world rankings.

Matt Kuchar and Adam Scott have also had strong years, both officially achieving the status of world-class talents, who will challenge at many big tournaments on a regular basis.

Cheeky mentions must go to Jordan Spieth, who started the season without Tour status and has ended it 21st in the world rankings.

His future looks very rosy indeed.

However, my personal favourite in 2013 has to be Billy Horschel. He is an absolute mad man whether playing well or badly.

I've always been a fan of golfers who express their emotions and don't just raise their hand like the queen after holing a putt and Horschel has both sides of the emotive spectrum.

Plus, he went on an outrageous run of form, culminating with his first Tour win at the Zurich Classic and watching him with those irons was a delight.

But what about the poor performances?

The obvious culprit is Rory McIlroy, who has failed to live up to expectations and a multi-million pound contract, but he did show glimpses and some of the criticism is unfair.

Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler have been my own disappointments this year because both are so exuberant and talented, yet neither hit the heights they should have.

Watsons' best moment was when he lost his head at his caddie, whilst Fowler has been billed as a ‘should-be' major champion and barring a few glimpses; nothing has been shown to suggest that.

Overall, we have had many ups and downs, bizarre rule changes and manipulations and a new number one in the world.

However, my highlight of the year has to be Jason Dufner slapping his wife's backside after winning his first Major title instead of the more traditional kiss and hug. Lad.
