The Italian had the year of his life in 2018, highlighted by his maiden major triumph at the Open Championship.

Molinari beat a stellar line-up of challengers including Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Xander Schauffele to prevail at Carnoustie, which was his third victory of the season.

He also won the BMW PGA Championship before his first PGA Tour title at the Quicken Loans National, where he won by eight.

Could it possibly get any better? Oh yes. Molinari then went on to win all five of his matches at the Ryder Cup, including his singles match vs Phil Mickelson where he wrapped up the winning point.

The 36-year-old then went on to lift the Race to Dubai title to be crowned Europe’s number one. He also reached a career-high 5th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
