Who Is Ian Poulter’s Caddie?
Ian Poulter worked with Terry Mundy for many years before teaming up with James Walton
Ian Poulter has had a few caddies on his bag over the course of his long and successful career, but James Walton appears to have got the gig for the time being. Walton, who's been caddying for about 15 years, has started 2023 on the bag in the Middle East.
Besides Poulter, the Bedford man has caddied for a number of top players, including Seung-Yul Noh, Suzanne Pettersen, Kyle Stanley, Y.E. Yang, Richard Lee, Robert Karlsson, Billy Mayfair and Suzann Pettersen.
Poulter, a 12-time DP World Tour winner, who joined LIV Golf last year, has also enjoyed lengthy periods working with experienced looper, Terry Mundy. In fact, Mundy was on the bag for 11 years before retiring in 2017 due to ongoing back problems.
Mundy, who has previous experience working with Laura Davies and Alison Nicolas, began caddying as a profession in 1989. Before that, he used to work as a printer in his local town of Bletchley, near Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire. He was also a good player in his own right, playing to a handicap of three.
At the Wells Fargo Championship in 2021, Poulter had his son, Luke (below), on the bag, and he shared the proud moment on his Instagram account. It was a tournament won by Rory McIlroy and although the Englishman missed the cut, no blame was attached to his teenage son, who looks to be eyeing up a future as a professional golfer himself.
Still, Poulter Jr can always count on his dad for a bit of work should he need it. The pair looked to be having a good time together when Luke took the bag again at the JP McManus Pro-Am last July.
When Poulter lost regular bagman Mundy to injury, he was made road manager. However, it appears Mundy has not totally called it quits so far as caddying is concerned, and he's been spotted on the course with his old friend on a number of occasions since 2017.

In only January last year, Mundy was on the bag for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. He also appeared to be working with Poulter in June when LIV Golf visited the Centurion Club. It all suggests that the 47-year-old still teams up with Mundy on occasions. Between him, Walton and his son, Luke, he doesn't appear to be short of offers.
