Reed Travel Exhibitions announced yesterday that the 2012 International Golf Travel Market will be held in the Algarve region of Portugal next year. The 15th event, for golf tourism suppliers, buyers, and media, will be held on the November 12-15 of next year.

António Pina, president of the Algarve Tourism Board, said: "With exceptional facilities and an enviable year-round climate, IGTM 2012 provides The Algarve with a significant opportunity to promote the region as a first-class golf destination."

The Algarve region of Portugal attracts over six million visitors every year to its thirty-five golf courses designed by greats such as Sir Henry Cotton, Arnold Palmer, Sir Nick Faldo, and Seve Ballesteros. Purpose-built for tourism on the Portuguese coastline in the 1970s, the Algarve is home to multiple golf resorts, luxury hotels, restaurants and bars, in the heart of the spectacular landscape of the region.

Peter Grimster, exhibition manager of the IGTM, said: "Portugal has been at the heart of the golf travel business for three decades and it has established itself as one of Europe's finest destinations."

The 2011 International Golf Travel Market was held in Belek, Antalya, Turkey, earlier this November. The 2012 event will be held the week after the World Travel Market in London, also organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions.
