Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero driver unveiled

The Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero driver has been unveiled, featuring an ultra-low centre of gravity to help fast swinging golfers achieve more distance

Following the launch of the Callaway XR 16 and XR 16 Pro drivers, Callaway has revealed a new low-spin model called the Callaway XR 16 Sub Zero driver, which features the lowest centre of gravity (CG) Callaway has ever put in a driver.

The 440cc driver is designed for players with high swing speeds that generate a lot of spin and uses a new proprietary Carbon Triax Crown that is extremely light, helping redistribute weight below the neutral axis.

There are also two interchangeable weights on the sole (10g and 2g) to fine tune the launch and spin required to maximize distance. Having the heavy weight forward offers the lowest spinning, flattest trajectory while moving it back promotes a slightly higher trajectory and more forgiveness.

Interestingly, the XR 16 Sub Zero driver doesn't feature the Speed Step crown, a raised section just behind the clubface said to improve the club's aerodynamics and therefore increase clubhead speed.

Like the other Callaway XR 16 drivers, you can choose from 20 premium, no upcharge shafts to fit your swing speed. This driver has already been played on Tour this year by Callaway staffer Phil Mickelson.

The Callaway XR 16 driver has an RRP of £399 and will be available in 9.5° loft and right handed only. It hits the shelves on April 15th.
