Explosive start to Turkish Airlines Open

More than 2,000 guests gathered at the Maxx Royal Belek Golf & Spa ahead of the Turkish Airlines Open to see Matteo Manassero take on Martin Kaymer in a spectacular target challenge.

The event was staged to celebrate the resort’s position as official hotel partner of the inaugural tournament.

Targets were placed on the lagoon overlooking Belek’s white sandy coastline, with both players taking alternate shots until all three had been hit.

Manassero and Kaymer unleashed a selection of quality shots, but the German was crowned champion after hitting the final target some 85 yards from stage, which set off a majestic firework display.

“I can honestly say I’ve never hit a shot from a more luxurious setting,” said Manassero.

“I think everyone has been extremely impressed with the outstanding quality and service this week. The hotel is world class and I can certainly understand the appeal for golfers wanting to visit Turkey to play golf.”

The Maxx Royal Belek Golf & Spa sits adjacent to the the Montgomerie Maxx Royal Golf Club, host of this week’s Turkish Airlines Open.

A number of players, caddies and guests have chosen the hotel as their base as they experience the European Tour’s newest event.

“Tonight was a great opportunity to mark such a monumental occasion for Turkey and The Maxx Royal brand. We are honoured to have so many of the world’s best players here this week, and Martin and Matteo put on a great show for our guests,” said Mehmet Ersoy, CEO of the ETStur, Maxx Royal hotels and Voyage hotels.
