A record crowd of over 19,000 spectators witnessed FootJoy brand ambassador Bernd Weisberger tackle the West Course at Wentworth last week while wearing a very special pair of MyJoys shoes designed by Golf Monthly competition winner Neal Gladwin.

The Austrian big hitter wore his unique FootJoy MyJoys after a Golf Monthly reader was one of seven fans who won the chance to design shoes for professionals to wear during the tournament’s first round.

After collecting almost 3,000 entries from golfers keen to see their creations come to life, each participating FootJoy player was invited to choose their favourite to wear during their opening 18 holes of the European Tour’s flagship event.

As well as seeing their shoes worn in competition at one of golf’s oldest and most prestigious events, the compeition winners also received their winning design for their own use, as well as being gifted tickets for the tournament.

Participating in the MyJoys event were former world number one Luke Donald, 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie, Brett Rumford,, Robert Karlsson,Gregory Bourdy, Bernd Wiesberger and former Golf Monthly playing editor Andy Sullivan.

“MyJoys May is all about showcasing the sheer range of styles, leathers, prints, colours and additional detailing that are made possible through the MyJoys programme, not to mention the vast number of width and size options available,” said FootJoy Marketing Executive, Paul O’Hagan.

“Our brand ambassadors are often noticed wearing shoes they have designed through MyJoys, and we are always blown away by the interest shown when we give the UK golfing public the chance to do the same on their behalf during MyJoys May.

“We were delighted to present our winners with replicas of the shoes they had designed for our Brand Ambassadors and hope they each thoroughly enjoyed following their creations around the course on Thursday of the tournament.”

As it transpired, Byeong-Hun An saw off the challenge of his fellow FootJoy ambassadors, with a tremendous final round 65 to set a tournament record of 21-under-par, six shots clear of his nearest competitor.

The South Korean, who earned the biggest payday of his career with a first prize of €833,330, wore the spikeless FootJoy DryJoys Casual on his way to victory.
