Teenager Ben Keane became the fifth Britain’s Best Putter regional final winner when he defeated a strong field of superb putters to lift the South West regional crown at Saunton Golf Club on Saturday.
The 15-year-old from Killiow Golf Club got off to a strong start on the smooth, true greens at Saunton by recording a low score of 34 points to lead the 18-hole strokeplay qualifying.
The seven-handicapper then cruised through the matchplay knockout stages to book his place in an exhilarating final against George Harrington, a member of Libberton Golf Club and, at 72 years old, almost five times his age!
The final was nip and tuck, going all the way to the 21st play-off hole, but in the end it Ben’s youthful confidence that came to the fore to clinch the South West BBP crown.
Ben and George both proceed to the BBP Grand Final at The Grove on October 13th 2012, along with defeated semi finalists Mike Banks from Chulmleigh Golf Club and Dan Toogood from Mendip Springs Golf Club.
All the competitors were treated to some great putting advice from Odyssey experts and the four qualifiers will now receive a brand new custom fit Odyssey putter at the Grand Final, along with other Odyssey goodies.
They will be competing for the ultimate title of Britain’s Best Putter and the grand prize of a golfing holiday for two to Spain’s Las Colinas Golf & Country Club.
