He has won five times on the PGA Tour; 1997 Canon Greater Hartford Open. 2000 MCI Classic. 2004 MCI Heritage, World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational. 2008 Travelers Championship.

His best major finishes previously were third in the 2001 US Open and tied third in the 1999 US PGA and 2008 Masters.

He is the ninth different American to win the Open since 1995 and claims the 115th American victory in European Tour history.

He made one of only six birdies at the 18th on Sunday and was the only player in the top 20 to do so.
