We take a look at some general information before the leaders tee off in the third round of the Open Championship at Muirfield (courtesy of www.opengolf.com).

Weather (provided on-site by the Met Office)

A cloudy start today, but cloud gradually breaking with lengthening sunny spells by afternoon. Max temp 20C. Winds E to NE 5mph increasing to 10mph with afternoon gusts to 15mph.

A mainly dry and cloudy night is expected. Min temp 14C. Light winds.

A cloudy start to Sunday is likely, but cloud breaking with sunny spells by afternoon. Generally light E-NE winds.

General Information

  • Fairways cut at 10mm.
  • Semi rough (approximate width 3 metres) cut at 50mm (not daily)
  • Second cut of rough (approximate width 3 metres) cut in early June at 150mm and allowed to go to seed

Cutting Regime and Green Speeds

Last night the greens were hand watered. The sprinkler system was not used on the greens. This morning the greens have been double cut at 4mm. The greens are 10 ½ feet. No greens were rolled. The greens are expected to pick up pace during the day again. The firmness values of the greens have reduced marginally. Fairways and Approaches

2ml of water was added to the fairways and the approaches last night with the sprinkler system.
