The Hunting Course at Slaley Hall is hosting the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship from 21st to 24th August, with spectators being encouraged to take advantage of a 2-for-1 ticket offer that is available on all bookings made before 1st August. Tickets for the event can be purchased by calling 01675 477812; alternatively a 2-for-1 flyer can be downloaded by logging onto the PGA Tournaments News section on www.pga.info. Furthermore, anyone who books tickets in advance will not only receive a free copy of the official programme but will also be entered into a prize draw to win hospitality for four people on either the Saturday (23rd August) or Sunday (24th August) of the tournament.
To launch this superb offer, Golf Courses and Estate Manager at Slaley Hall Steve Cram met with his namesake, former Olympic athlete and television presenter Steve Cram; the latter was taking part in COCOs Celebrity Golf Day, which featured 27 teams from across the North East playing alongside sporting celebrities. The event raised £31,000 towards COCOs projects to help change the lives of disadvantaged children overseas.
Slaleys Cram, who returned in January for his second spell at De Veres luxurious Northumberland resort said: It is great to be back at Slaley Hall and to be able to work on the two magnificent courses here. The Hunting course is already in tremendous condition but we will be working very hard over the few weeks to make sure the great players on show at the PGA Seniors Championship experience the course under first class tournament conditions”
Olympic medallist Cram said: The courses here at Slaley are just superb and it is always a pleasure to play in the COCO Celebrity golf day. I am sure my namesake here will set the course up as a real test for the Senior PGA in August.
This will be the first time that the Dave Thomas designed Hunting Course will have hosted the PGA Seniors Championship, which will see Carl Masson defending his title following his victory at The Stoke By Nayland Club last year. Sam Torrance, Europes Ryder Cup winning captain in 2002 and back-to-back winner of the Seniors Championship in 2005 and 2006, will also be competing for the record prize fund of £300,000, along with fellow Ryder Cup players Costantino Rocca and Gordon Brand Junior.
The par 72 Hunting Course is a real treasure that is magnificently maintained, featuring rolling moorland, streams and lakes, towering trees and banks of rhododendrons. Well placed bunkers and tricky greens make this USGA standard course a real challenge. Slaley Hall also boasts the Priestman Course on the west side of the estate, designed by Neil Coles, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Tyne Valley. Further information about the golf facilities on offer at the resort can be found by logging onto www.devere-hotels.com or by calling the Pro Shop on 01434 673350.
