The Matchplay Grand Final is underway at the Els Club in Dubai. The event is one of Europe's largest amateur golf competitions.

Jim Bishop and Michael Cunningham of Langdon Hills Golf and Country Club are currently tied for the lead in the men's pairs on 41 points. They are joined by Chris Scott-Douglas and Mike Ankers of Bloxwich GC and Darnford Moors GC.

"Mike made birdie on the first which got us off to a flying start and we just tried to enjoy it from there. We're playing well and enjoying the whole experience." said Bishop.

David and Tracey Morris of Collingtree Park Golf Club are leading the mixed pairs on 38 points.

The event costs just £25 to enter and attracts a wide range of golfers looking to make it to Dubai. First launched in 2003, 36 players compete in a better-ball stableford format.

All the players were flown out to Dubai after regional qualifying in the UK. Competitors stay in the luxury apartments of Marriott Dubai Harbour Hotel.

With two rounds left and a number of teams within two points of the leaders in both divisions, an exciting finish looks set to be played out in front of the Skysports cameras.
